Done by a master, this inlay work is an excellent combination of exotic woods. The marble is original to the chest and the perfect color to work with any decor. The mountings are gilt brass. This marble top chest measures 40 inches wide at its back 34 inches at the front,19 and one quarter inches deep and 36 and one half inches high.

- - - - - - - - - - - - | Bronze figure of Eugene O'Neill as a child by Norman Legassie Item # 6461 Click HERE to inquire about this item Bronze figure of Eugene O'Neill as a child. We are honored to have been chosen by Mr Legassie to sell this bronze in a limited edition. The figure measures 12 inches high by 16 inches long by 8 inches wide. The entire sculpture measures 18.5 inches high by 18.5 inches long by 11 inches wide, including the mahogany base. Artist's Biography: Norman Legassie began his sculpture career at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, Connecticut, and was awarded scholarships for study for three consecutive years. He was a faculty member there from 1983 to 1988, teaching portrait and figure sculpture.
This sculptor's principle works include the portrait bust of Senator Thomas Dodd, which stands in the entry of the Thomas J. Dodd Archives & Research Center of Judaic Studies and Oral History, at the University of Connecticut at Storrs. Mr. Legassie's seven-foot bronze figure of an American construction worker, completed in 1993, is a memorial to the victims of the 1987 L'Ambiance Plaza building collapse in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In addition, his portrait bust of George W. Crawford, 33rd Sovereign Grand Commander, is on view at the Prince Hall Freemasonry, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Other principle works include a larger version of this bronze figure of the American playwright Eugene O'Neill as a child, located at City Pier, New London, CT, with smaller versions installed at the Beinecke Library, Yale University, and in Shelykovo, Soviet Union, at the country estate of the 19th-century Russian dramatist, Alexander Ostrovsky. Mr. Legassie's portrait bust of Susanne K. Langer, American philosopher and author, can be found at the Charles E. Shain Library, Connecticut College, New London, CT, while other portraits and sculptures are in public, private, and corporate collections.

- - - - - - - - - - - - | Large solid sterling silver punch bowl set made by Peter Ferner 20th c Item # 6467 Click HERE to inquire about this item Very fine sterling silver punch set made by Peter Ferner, a Stuttgart, Germany, area silversmith active in the mid 20th century. Ferner was born in Schwabisch Gmund in 1928. His father was owner of the Eugen Ferner factory for silverware there. Peter started as an apprentice at his father's factory and took his master's degree in 1952. He set up his own workshop in Gmünd in 1956. He taught at the academy at Nürnberg in 1963-4. In 1968 he opened up a shop for jewlery, cutlery etc. The diameter of the tray is 20 1/2 in. (52cm), and the diameter of the punch bowl 12 3/4 in. (32.4cm) The set weighs 207oz 8dwt (6450g), excluding the glass liners.The set consists of a punch bowl, tray, twelve goblets, and ladle. The punch bowl and tray both have shaped rims applied with grapes, grape leaves and vines, and the domed foot of the punch bowl and goblets are chased to match. The punch bowl and tray are fitted with glass liners. All pieces are marked P FERNER STERLING on the bases, and all are in excellent condition.

S Belford,1933 Chicago R. E. Hanson,1934 Washington D.C. S. B. Smith, 1935 New Orleans R. S. Drew, 1936 San Francisco David Wisnom, 1937 Boston R. S. Drew 1938 Houston G. S. Eccles,1939 Seattle W.K. Yost 1950 New York J. L. Cleveland. It looks like the tournament was stopped during the second world war. This is rare piece of French Art Deco furniture made from a fruitwood. The case back,bottom and drawers were all made from large hand cut dovetails and the front has a wonderful wave design. There is a single center drawer and two small drawers just above the two doors. This is with out a doubt one of the best pieces of Art Deco we have ever had the good fortune to acquire. This French art deco furnishing measures 49 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 52 inches high at the back, is 27 and one quarter inches high to vanity surface and is 30 and three quarter inches high at the sides.
